“I was in the US Army during the 70s stationed in Frankfurt, West Germany. When we first arrived in country, we were briefed about our mission, which was to potentially stop Russian armored forces heading west across the Fulda Gap, until reinforcement arrived. We were basically there to slow down the Russians, not stop them completely, since we would have been outnumbered 10-1. At that time, it seemed incomprehensible to me that the wall would ever come down. Glad it finally did. I also think it must have been very difficult for the East German people to leave the security of their communist way of life where everything is pretty much provided for them, and then to suddenly have to fend for yourself. Glad it's now history and most have assimilated well.

Well, if you want a cheap $800ish phone, with the price subsidized through your contract, it will cost extra to cancel. I am not sure where the surprise is. Though it would be nice if instead of a flat $350 they could actually give you a real figure of how much you still owe for your fancy-ass phone.?
I saw Chuck Anderson at a conference a few years ago. He's one of those people you just hate for being so talented. He was just out of high school, still living in his small hometown in Illinois and doing big campaigns for Sketchers and some album covers. Whats great is he gets hired as an artist and not a designer. They commission his work for his style so they just tell him to make a piece and he comes up with whatever he wants. He does these amazing collages and does all the photography and artwork himself. He never uses anything found or purchased. He had the best story about getting started though. He said he would look for the name of the editors in magazines he liked and then guess their email addresses. He would send a bunch of them trying to guess if they did full names in their emails or first letter and last name until he got one that didn't bounce back. He got connected to a bunch of people that way and got started as an artist. He was a really nice shy kid when I saw him. I'm glad he's doing so well.
